Thanks for a great CTS #7 weekend.

Hi All,
I just wanted to take a minute to recap last weekend's very successful CTS #7 event.
It all started Friday afternoon/evening with the annual Monkey Nut shop party and open house.  We had a couple hundred folks come through and enjoy the nice weather, good food, and excellent company!  I wanted to thank all those that came out and appreciated everyone keeping the neighborhood clean - that was a big help for sure...
After the traditional morning cruise to Bojangles, the buses started rolling into the show on Saturday.  We had approximately 84 buses at the event and the most swap vendors we have ever had!
In typical CTS fashion we had a number of award winners this year and here they are:

  • Best Split Window Camper went to Brad Boston for his gorgeous 62 Westy
  • Best Split Passenger went to Rick Bradshaw for his red and white late split deluxe
  • Best Bay Window Passenger went to Wayne Hendrick for his Yellow 71 bus
  • Best Bay Camper went to Susan Ireton, owner of a beautiful white 70 Westy, .
  • Best Commercial All Years went to Bob LaPorte for his outstanding 67 double cab
  • People's Choice Award went to John Harper for his OG 54 Deluxe
  • Tetanus Award went to Alex Holmes for his rusty 62/63 Kombi
  • Long Distance Award goes to Detroit Johnny who cruised over 1000 miles one way from northern Michigan in his 70 Westy.
With plenty of room at the NC Music Factory, there should be no problem growing this event in future years...
After the show, a few of us cruised up to the Farmhouse Restaurant in Salisbury for dinner on the way up to the Big Bug Shootout.  Stormy weather Saturday night scared off the faint of heart, but there was still a good turnout for Sunday's event at Piedmont Dragway.

A huge thanks to all who helped to make this weekend's worth of events happen, there is now way it could get done without you!
Here are just a few folks to thank for their efforts when you see them - Bryan and Regina Mitchell for getting this whole thing started and keeping it going; Walter, Scott, and Bill for great PR work as well as event parking; Colby, Greg, Shane, Shawn, and Joe for countless hours cleaning and organizing; the T-shirt girls Teresa, Laura, and Missy for moving that cotton; Missy and Andrew for the awards; Bryan S. for loaning many items from his work; and Adam for jump starting cars...

Hope everyone had a great time and I look forward to CTS #8!

We will making our final plans for this weekends big events, thanks in advance to all who have generously volunteered their time.

Saturday morning cruise-in CHANGE

Hi All,
It has come to the attention of many club members that the regularly scheduled morning cruise-in this Saturday is at the same time as the Circle Yer Wagens Show in TN.  Since many local folks are going to that show, the suggestion was made to move the Saturday morning cruise-in to next week - Saturday, May 8th.  We will meet up between 6 and 9 AM at the Caribou Coffee House in Park Road Shopping Center, Charlotte.  Look forward to seeing everybody next weekend and have fun this weekend if you are making the trip up to TN!

Hi All,
Well, in the wake of our big snow event, the Charlotte area is finally warming up .  This weekend should prove to be a beautiful one and why not get it started by coming out for our first Coffee and Cruisers event this Saturday morning from 6-9 am at the Caribou Coffee House/ Charlotte Cafe.  Both The Charlotte Cafe and Caribou Coffee are located in the central portion (between the Harris Teeter and Michael's) of the Park Road Shopping Center in Charlotte, near the corner of Park Road and Woodlawn. This event is open to all classic car owners so tell your non-VW friends as well.  Let's fill up that parking lot and kick off our weekend right!  The nicest thing is, once we wrap up Saturday morning, you still have your entire weekend left to look forward to.

February MVWE / PTO Meeting - from Jake

Hi All,
With the new addition to my family, I have been a bit slow getting info out to the group. Our next cruise-in is next Wednesday, February 10th from 6:30-9:00pm. There was a great turnout last month with some good discussion about increasing the number and type of VW club related activities. To that end, I wanted to summarize some of the proposals and give you chance to bring your thoughts on these topics to the next week's cruise-in. Here they are:

* Folks were all in agreement that we should make an effort to take part in 3-4 events per year as a club, here were some suggestions (some of which we already do):
o Christmas toy drive up in Concord, December
o CTS/Big Bug Shootout weekend, May
o South 21 DriveIn Cruise-In/BBQ at Bill R's, August
o Fall Campout, October

* The suggestion was made to advertise the club's monthly Cruise-in with new fliers to be passed out to fellow enthusiasts around town and at shows. Scott has graciously drafted a prototype of the flier which is attached to this email - we welcome suggestions/edits

* Bill R. has graciously accepted to head the advertising effort for the upcoming CTS #7 show/Greensboro Bug-Out weekend in May. He will be soliciting for volunteer help in the coming months. Bring any ideas you have regarding these two events.

* A great new event idea was suggested for the coming 2010 year - "Dub's and Donuts" one Saturday morning a month (possibly the last Saturday of the month) from 6-8 am. This is modeled on similar events in other states that are very successful mainly because they get folks up and going on a weekend, without taking up the bulk of the day. Here are a few location suggestions, but I would welcome any other quirky, VW friendly location ideas that are centrally located for the region:
o Dunkin Donuts - corner of 6th and Graham, Downtown Charlotte
o Dunkin Donuts - South Blvd, between Camden and East, South End Charlotte
o Starbucks in the Cotswold Shopping Center

* The group is also interested if folks are satisfied with the current cruise-in location (The Roasting Company) or if you might have other suggestions for a meeting locations. Here are few preliminary alternative locations in Charlotte:
o Moe's Southwestern Grill on East Blvd, next to Brixx Pizza
o Phat Burrito at the corner of Camden and North Park Rd.
o Wolfman Pizza in the Cotswold Shopping Center

Please bring any other suggestions you might have and help make 2010 a grand new frontier for the local VW community!
See you next week...
Keep on v'dubbin,
Jake
