February MVWE / PTO Meeting - from Jake

Hi All,
With the new addition to my family, I have been a bit slow getting info out to the group. Our next cruise-in is next Wednesday, February 10th from 6:30-9:00pm. There was a great turnout last month with some good discussion about increasing the number and type of VW club related activities. To that end, I wanted to summarize some of the proposals and give you chance to bring your thoughts on these topics to the next week's cruise-in. Here they are:

* Folks were all in agreement that we should make an effort to take part in 3-4 events per year as a club, here were some suggestions (some of which we already do):
o Christmas toy drive up in Concord, December
o CTS/Big Bug Shootout weekend, May
o South 21 DriveIn Cruise-In/BBQ at Bill R's, August
o Fall Campout, October

* The suggestion was made to advertise the club's monthly Cruise-in with new fliers to be passed out to fellow enthusiasts around town and at shows. Scott has graciously drafted a prototype of the flier which is attached to this email - we welcome suggestions/edits

* Bill R. has graciously accepted to head the advertising effort for the upcoming CTS #7 show/Greensboro Bug-Out weekend in May. He will be soliciting for volunteer help in the coming months. Bring any ideas you have regarding these two events.

* A great new event idea was suggested for the coming 2010 year - "Dub's and Donuts" one Saturday morning a month (possibly the last Saturday of the month) from 6-8 am. This is modeled on similar events in other states that are very successful mainly because they get folks up and going on a weekend, without taking up the bulk of the day. Here are a few location suggestions, but I would welcome any other quirky, VW friendly location ideas that are centrally located for the region:
o Dunkin Donuts - corner of 6th and Graham, Downtown Charlotte
o Dunkin Donuts - South Blvd, between Camden and East, South End Charlotte
o Starbucks in the Cotswold Shopping Center

* The group is also interested if folks are satisfied with the current cruise-in location (The Roasting Company) or if you might have other suggestions for a meeting locations. Here are few preliminary alternative locations in Charlotte:
o Moe's Southwestern Grill on East Blvd, next to Brixx Pizza
o Phat Burrito at the corner of Camden and North Park Rd.
o Wolfman Pizza in the Cotswold Shopping Center

Please bring any other suggestions you might have and help make 2010 a grand new frontier for the local VW community!
See you next week...
Keep on v'dubbin,
Jake
